Chess Weekend 23rd/24th June
We spent a damp weekend parked in Parliament St with the chess weekend guys, talking to passers by and the odd old friend (hi Richard!) with a view to encouraging them to come along. A lot of games of Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation and Hey! That's My Fish were played with the public. Thanks to all who took part: Hugo, Andy, Jim (hey, that's me) Paul & George, Steve & Oliver, and Jon.
Top marks here to Jon for persisting in trying to rope in a pair of incredulous, sneering chavs on Saturday morning who clearly thought the whole idea stupid. Sheer dedication in the line of fire from our man!
BM! Gameday
After some discussion, we have decided to not have a BM! gameday at the RI this year and to concentrate on gaming at the NRM in November. But we are booked into the Guildhall next year and that is our main goal for 2008. We will be running tournaments at the NRM, since we have two days there, and the delay gives us more time to organise things properly.
BM! Guild on BoardGameGeek
Thanks to Dave Jako's quick work, we have a Guild on BoardGameGeek http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/117
Guilds are ways for BGG users to join together for a specific reason, in this case to promote our club. We'll be putting some club content up there in time. If you are registered on BGG, come and join our Guild.
Essen
For those who can't wait to see each year's new games (that'll be Jon then), the place to be in October is the Essen game fair in Germany where a lot of new titles are previewed.
Steve Hedges is considering travelling by Hull Ferry to the games fair, and can provide transport for up to two people in his car via Hull ferries. Start Thursday afternoon, take the overnight ferry across, attend the fair for Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, and return overnight ferry on Sunday.
Steve has friends living in the area and may also be able to provide basic accommodation whilst over there. Contribution to travel and cabin cost £70 per head for a shared cabin. If interested, please contact Steve.
Lunchtime Gaming in Leeds
Peter Sanderson is looking for anyone who would be interested in playing a short game one lunchtime a week in a suitable cafe in the centre of Leeds. If that sounds like you, contact Peter directly via email.
